Janine Young has been working in the golf industry for years, and she's now part of something that's making a real difference at the grassroots level—Watson Links, founded by Masters champion Tom Watson.
Watson Links is a nonprofit program that pairs youth golfers with mentors who guide them through the game and life beyond it. Sure, it's about passing tips on swings and short game; but it's also about building character, creating opportunities, and opening doors for young players who might not otherwise have access to the game.
The program operates on a simple but powerful model: one mentor, one mentee, with golf as the foundation. Mentors guide their mentees through golf fundamentals, etiquette, and course management while also providing life guidance, support, and encouragement. It's the kind of relationship that can shape a young person's trajectory—on and off the course.
Founded by Tom Watson—eight-time major champion and one of the game's most respected ambassadors—Watson Links embodies the values he's carried throughout his career: integrity, generosity, and a commitment to growing the game the right way.
Janine is working to expand Watson Links into South Florida, bringing this mentorship-driven approach to more young golfers in the region. She works out of Flagstick Golf in Boynton Beach, a golf performance center where I had the chance to meet her and get a lesson. Hearing about Watson Links firsthand, we're personally interested in becoming mentors ourselves and helping shape the program as it grows in South Florida.
