FORE! The WGA
FORE! Matt Minella and the Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation (WGA)!
I connected with Matt months back, and he introduced me to something I feel like I should have known about already—the Western Golf Association. Some pieces sounded familiar: Evans Scholars, the BMW Championship—but I didn't realize they were all part of one foundational institution that's been shaping golf from the ground up for well over a century.
The WGA is core to golf... From the grassroots through their Evans Scholars Caddie Program—teaching anyone with a passion, from all walks of life, to pick up the game and carry the etiquette, manners, and traditions that golf teaches throughout their entire lives—to hosting six prestigious tournaments, including the BMW Championship, the Western Amateur, and the Western Junior.
If I could go back in time, I'd take a summer job as a caddy. While I enjoyed carrying my own clubs to play, that would have been an awesome experience—if only I knew where to look back then.
Deep in history, legends of the game have honed their skills and tested their mettle through these tournaments. Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler—they've all come through this association.
Known for its championships, its scholarships, and its world-class caddie program, the WGA is one of the great institutions in golf—aligning heart, purpose, and mission in a way that creates life-changing opportunities. The Evans Scholars program alone has sent thousands of caddies to college on full tuition and housing scholarships. It's something you carry with you for life.
The Evans Scholars Invitational is even an event on the Korn Ferry Tour, continuing that legacy at the professional level.
If you're not familiar with the WGA yet, it's worth digging into. This is foundational stuff—the kind of organization that makes golf better from the inside out and shapes the course of someone's life.
